Achievements

Introduction: To rescue women from exploitation, empower them financially, and help them regain their dignity in society and family, the "Bhagini Mitra Mandal" was established in Palitana on 13-07-1957. This organization, founded by the late Smt. Lilaben Kapasi, who was honored by the Gujarat government and received the Mother Teresa Award, has successfully reestablished countless families and financially empowered a similar number of women.

In 2008, a significant milestone was reached when the organization was renamed to "Smt. Kamalaben Shantilal Kapasi Bhagini Mitra Mandal - Palitana," following a generous donation from the philanthropist, Shri Chinubhai Himatlal Shah. This new name marked the beginning of a new chapter of success for the organization.

The Bhagini Mitra Mandal of Palitana is considered a spiritual hub for women in the community. Palitana, home to the sacred Shatrunjaya Dham of the Jains, is renowned for its profound spiritual practices. The organization conducts various programs focusing on the economic, social, familial, and educational upliftment of women.

The organization’s extensive network includes lifelong members, 3,136 shareholders, 1,500 trainees, and around 60 women seeking guidance daily. It also supports 60 women through employment via the organization’s managed industries and provides advanced computer education to 358 students, alongside 32 elderly beneficiaries. This broad scope has earned the organization national recognition.

Starting from a rented room, the organization has now grown into a major support system, addressing women's issues and providing a nurturing environment. The inception of the organization was driven by the dedicated efforts of prominent social workers in Palitana.

Founding Director Smt. Lilaben Kapasi dedicated her life to the protection and empowerment of women. Her legacy was further strengthened by the first president, Smt. Bhuwaneswariben Desai, who came from a prestigious family and was the wife of the then-session judge of Palitana. Her long-term vision fortified the foundation of the organization, along with notable contributions from Smt. Kantaben Bavishi, Smt. Ramaben Dodhari, Smt. Manglabhen Bagdiya, and Smt. Lilaben Bakraniya.
